Welcome back! I am so excited to begin this year at Stott. We had a great couple of days back in our first week and are already underway with lots of learning. The teachers and I always enjoy welcoming students back with a lot of fanfare. It brings such joy to see our students excited to return to school. It’s our responsibility to harness that excitement and keep it going all year.

This year, we are teaming up with the Look for the Good Project in order to focus on positive thinking and gratitude. It is our sincere hope that our students learn to see the good in any situation and realize that there is always something to be grateful for. I am entering my 20th year in education this year, and am more aware than ever that we cannot make a difference for our students without close partnerships with families. As the school year begins, I would like to take a moment to discuss the commitment that all Stott staff will make to you and ask for your support on a few key issues in return. Our commitments to you: * We will keep parents and students informed about student progress and assessment results throughout the year. We will communicate promptly and frequently with families through email, written communication, conferences, and phone calls to share information or address concerns. * We will create and promote a safe, orderly, and healthy learning environment for all students. Our staff will teach and model Stott SOLE (Respect for Self, Others, Learning Environment and Effort). * We will set high standards for school work and student behavior, provide for regular assessment checks, and will ensure timely feedback on student progress. * We will support our students academically, socially and emotionally through personal connections and relationships. * We will offer Project Based Learning through STEM, robotics and multi-disciplinary projects so that students become critical thinkers and creative problem solvers.

Here’s how you can help: * If you need to talk to a teacher about an issue, please send an email, note or leave a voicemail. Please don’t try to talk to the teacher during instructional time or at arrival/dismissal. Teachers want to give their full attention to you, but it is hard to do that when the classroom is full of students who also need their attention. * Please help your child arrive at school on time. When students are late, it is stressful for them and is disruptive to the learning of others. * If possible, attend PTSA and Accountability meetings. This is the forum for hearing updates about Stott and providing your input to staff. * Please attend conferences and other school events. Your presence at these events shows your students just how much your value their education. *Finally, if you are ever unhappy or feeling frustrated about school, please approach staff in a respectful manner. Please, don’t let your student hear you speak poorly about their teachers. Students need to know that parents and teachers are working together.

I am certain that together we can make this the best year ever for Stott Stallions! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
