Safety Procedures

Stott parents and staff are committed to keeping our students safe!

The Stott teachers and staff would like to improve the start of the school day for students by implementing a “soft start”. Beginning Tuesday, January 21, students will go straight to their classrooms upon arrival instead of lining up outside their classroom door. Once in the classroom, kids will have the opportunity to unpack, take care of morning lunch and attendance, and begin a quiet activity until the 8:30 bell rings. We believe having kids start in a quiet, calm environment will help create a more positive learning environment and start of the day.

Here is how the Soft Start will work:

· Students should continue to arrive no earlier than 8:15 unless they are coming for breakfast beginning at 8:00 AM.

· Adult supervision will continue to begin at 8:15. There will now be adults outside and inside for supervision.

· Kids eating breakfast will be dismissed from the cafeteria after 8:15 to go to their classroom.

· All students will enter through the front doors and will go directly to their classrooms between 8:15-8:30. Students should not line up outside their classrooms.

· Students arriving after 8:30 will continue to stop at the office for a tardy slip before going to their classrooms.

· We ask that parents say their goodbyes in the car or at the front door of the school so students can enter their classrooms and begin their morning routines. This will help alleviate congestion in the halls. The soft start will continue for the remainder of this year. We will talk about the pros and cons in the spring to decide if we want to continue in August. Parents will have an opportunity to give their opinion later in the spring.

*Please use the double lanes to drop off and pick up students.

-when using the lane next to the curb, children may exit from both sides of the car

-when using the inside lane, children must exit the passenger side only

-children exiting onto the center painted lane should walk forward to the crosswalk (marked by the green safety kid) then over to the sidewalk

-children should not cut between cars

*Both lanes should move as quickly and cautiously as possible. Parents please stay in your vehicle. Vehicles need to cautiously drive through the curved lane (to the left of the bus zone) and exit the parking lot.

*Please do not park in the bus loading zone or fire lane at any time. You may pull ahead of the bus lane to drop off or pick up your child.

*If parking your car to walk your child into school, be sure to use one of the two crosswalks marked by a green safety kid. Children may not walk through the parking lot, without an adult, before or after school.

*Adult supervision after school is from 3:10 to 3:20 pm. We respectfully ask that parents arrive before 3:20 to pick up students. Children walking home need to do so right after they are dismissed.

*To ensure even greater safety, we can always use adult volunteers to help with before and after school drop-off and pick-up. If you are interested, or you know someone who might be, please contact Jessica Walz at or Patti Katsampes at
